NAPA News - Week 7, Term 3, 2023

Dear NAPA Families,

What a busy time this is! With our upcoming production of Frozen there will be a few changes to class times to accommodate the shows. We also have a few things to note in your diaries.

Cancellation of classes

Cancellation of classes on Saturday, 9 September and Thursday, 7 September

Broadway Kids and all dance classes held on Saturday, 9 September and all classes on Thursday, 7 September, except Senior Acting and Junior Acting will be cancelled. However, this time will be more than made up with extra rehearsals close to performance dates of our upcoming productions and the dance concert.

Look out for emails

Look out for emails coming this week regarding aspects of upcoming performances.

Please take careful notice of these. Coming your way will be:

  • A note from Laura, director of Frozen for Hair & Make-up instructions

  • Note for Frozen cast regarding drop off, pick up times etc for the performances.

  • Notes from Lynn regarding helpers for Frozen dressing rooms and the roster drawn up.

  • A note from Michael Bishop to Pre-Senior FTV and Junior Acting regarding some presentations for parents he will be doing in the last week.

All Shook Up ticket sales!

As promised, we will be trialling a Pre-Ticket sale system for ticket purchases, with All Shook Up being the first one to do this. Tickets for All Shook Up will be open for parents only on Tuesday, 12 September to buy up to FOUR tickets. When purchasing the tickets please put the tickets under your child’s name. We will cross check that only the maximum of FOUR have been assigned to each child in the class. If there are ticket purchases without a name of a cast member as the purchaser, they will be cancelled and reimbursed to the purchaser. On Friday, 15 September we will then open ticket sales to the general public and for parent who wish to buy more than the FOUR assigned tickets in the Pre-Ticket sale. Hope this works out.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

I hope everyone is on board with our cookie dough fundraiser. If this is a big success, we are hoping to be able to install the floor during the September holidays. This will go over our existing floor to make it far more effective in the safety of our students. Even students who do not do dance classes often use this room. Our Musical Theatre classes dance in there and our acro class will love the extra spring.

Help us give our big dance room a fabulous new floor! The P&F is launching a delicious Cookie Dough Fundraiser to make our dance space even more magical. Indulge in scrumptious cookie dough and support our cause at the same time! With every purchase, you'll be contributing to transforming our dance room into an enchanting haven for all dancers and musical theatre cherubs to enjoy. Spread the word and share the love! 🩵 Grab your favourite cookie dough flavours and let's dance our way to a stunning makeover together!

September Holidays

Please note that the last day of classes for Term 3 is Saturday 16 September (although Frozen cast will have a rest week that week) and the return date is Tuesday, 3 October as Monday is a public holiday. However, Murder on the 518 cast will have a rehearsal on Sunday, 1 October and All Shook Up will have a rehearsal of Monday, 2 October – so please keep those dates free.

Performers Protocols

As so many students have a production in the next few weeks, I think it’s a great time to remind everyone about some performers’ protocols. For newbies, this will probably be all new to you.

  • Arrive on time. Check call times as they may be different according to the roles. Also check if your child is wearing a microphone as they will have an earlier arrival time.

  • Do not arrive in costume or walk outside in costume when audience members have arrived. Audiences lose the impact costumes can make if they see them prior to the show.

  • Students need to ensure they have been to the toilet before audiences arrive. For big musicals we do get porter loos for cast members, so they are not seen or have to line up with audience members.

  • Ensure to wear the correct underwear as instructed for the costume. Underwear should not be seen.

  • Phones should be switched off and not used backstage during performances.

  • Healthy light snacks and water are the only food to be brought in. Food not to be eaten due to them effecting the vocal cords are: cheese, milk, yoghurt and other dairy products, chocolate, Nutella, juice, softdrinks, fried food, chips, popcorn, lollies and spicy foods. Best to eat is fruit, vegetables, eggs, chicken, nuts (but drink water straight after).

  • Primary school aged students need to be signed in and out – list is by the roller door and manned by a backstage helper.

  • Dressing rooms need to be kept tidy. Clothes hung up or neatly piled. Boxes of personal accessories kept neatly in designated area. Rubbish put in the bin.

  • Best to bring in a named box with accessories such as bobby pins, hair ties, safety pins, elastic band etc. Anything that maybe needed to fix anything that goes wrong costume and hair wise.

  • No eating in costume. If it’s too hard to take off put something over it to prevent any food stains.

  • Quiet in dressing rooms and backstage

  • No running backstage

  • Do not distract others from staying in character backstage. Focus on staying in character just before the show starts and onwards.

  • Actively participate in physical and vocal warm-ups.

  • Only designated people are to be backstage.

  • No food in stage area

  • Ensure you have a shower and use deodorant before arriving in the dressing room.

  • Enjoy the experience.

Have a great week everyone

Cheers,
Lynn & The NAPA Team
