NAPA News - Week 2, Term 1, 2024

Dear NAPA Families,

I hope your children have had a fabulous first week of NAPA classes. Thank you to those of you who gave wonderful feedback on their child’s NAPA experience; it’s great to hear so many have found their happy place. First week can be very daunting for new students, especially the younger ones, but once they get into class routines, they can relax and embrace this amazing experience. Of course, we mustn’t forget new parents, this all can be very daunting for you as well. Don’t worry, it can take time to get your heads around the opportunities we offer, our processes, schedules, and performance industry terminology. To get on top of this, ensure you read the newsletter each week for relevant information you require.

Calendar Updates

It is important that you check our calendar on our web site. We have added a few more dates this week. Not only do we have on there our productions, dance concerts, eisteddfods etc. but we have now included our final extra rehearsals, leading up to the shows. Please take careful note of these as extra rehearsals in production week, requires 100% attendance. We have done this so families can block these weeks on their calendars, so you can book holidays or events around these final rehearsals.

Awards Week

This year, due to the number of students who didn’t attend their Awards Ceremonies at the end of last year, leaving us with a huge number of unclaimed awards and a big waste of money, has caused us to change this tradition. This year, our last week of classes, which will be in the first week of December (1st – 7th December), will be when families will be invited to their child’s class to watch them give a performance presentation, followed by them receiving class awards. More information will be provided closer to the event, but once again, please note this special event on your calendars.

MUMMY AND ME STARTS BACK THIS WEEK!

Calling all mummies and daddies with babies aged 1-4!

Our Mummy and Me classes are perfect for mummies and daddies (or special loved one) who wish to spend some quality time with their cherubs while learning and exercising!

Starting this week

9.30am Tuesdays and Wednesdays at NAPA Studios, Burleigh

Uniform Reminder

Don’t forget that the cut-off date for uniform orders is the 14th February.  This is the only time of the year we order these, so please ensure you do not miss out.

What to wear to classes

I have copied this information from our Parent Information booklet which can be found on our website. Please take note of this as our first week showed many students not following these requirements.  Inappropriate shoes were a real concern, especially when students wore open sandals, thongs, crocs etc for classes that included dance.  Acting also requires movement that needs appropriate footwear.

  • For dance classes we have a dance uniform that can be purchased online.  Eisteddfod classes must wear the uniform to every lesson, other dance classes can either wear our NAPA uniform or other appropriate dance gear (leotard, leggings, dance shorts, crop top, fitted singlet).  Hair must be off the face and shoulders in a neat bun or ponytail. Jazz shoes can be black or tan (Bloch or Capezio split sole).  Ballet shoes – elastic for class and ribbons must be sewn on for exams. Tap shoes should be black lace up (preferably split sole). Boys Crew have their own uniform for purchase at reception.

  • Music Theatre and Acting – casual clothing that allows freedom of movement. We ask that students wear a NAPA T-shirt as much as possible. Do not wear thongs, sandals, skirts, dresses or jewellery. Hair needs to be off the face.

BPAC Collective ‘On Broadway’

Congratulations to the three NAPA students selected to perform in the 2024 BPAC Collective Pro/Am production ‘On Broadway’ in Brisbane in January. Jaeda Power, Xavier Cooper and Caitlynn Verster were among 35 performers representing 30 different Dance and Performing Arts Schools selected through an audition process from across Australia. The two-week intensive program culminated in three performances alongside some of Australia’s Musical Theatre industry elite.

Costume Washing

We are currently putting away costumes from all of last year’s shows. It is really important we get back all those taken for washing. Please bring them back to the office by the end of the week so we can finalise this job and get ready to organise the ones we need for this year.

Have a fabulous week ahead everyone

Cheers,
Lynn & the NAPA Team
