NAPA News - Week 10, Term 2, 2023

Dear NAPA Families,

Doesn’t time fly?! It’s the last week of Term 2 already! First day back for Term 3 is Monday 10th July.
Wishing you all a great holiday.

PJ Week for last week of Term

To celebrate the end of term, let’s all wear our favourite PJs to NAPA classes for the last week. Dance students need to wear dance clothes underneath their pyjamas in case they get too hot and need to shed their PJs. Have fun dressing down cherubs.

A Huge Success at BPAC for our Performance Teams

WHAT A WEEKEND! Our 6s, 8s, 10s & 12s absolutely shone at BPAC this weekend. Not only amazing results, but wonderful feedback from the judges for our cherubs and our awesome Miss Greta. We are so proud!!

6s Any Style (Lyrical) - 1st

8s Novelty (Broadway Jazz) - 1st

10s Song & Dance - 1st

10s Lyrical - 1st

12s Lyrical - 1st

12s Musical Theatre - 1st

12s Any Style (Acro) - 1st & 3rd

Our students are so lucky to have such amazing teachers and mentors contributing to their overall training, and it was so evident this weekend that we are training an amazing bunch of rising stars. WELL DONE CHERUBS!!

Restoration of the Tap Floor

Check out our tap floor in 42nd Street. We just had it restored to make it less slippery for our students. Floors for tap dancers get quite a beating so a necessary regular cost.

Lost Property

Last week of term is also the last week for lost property to be collected. Anything left on the rack after our last day of term, which is this Saturday, will be re-homed. Please pop into reception to check what is there. We are concerned about how much money it costs to replace some of these items for our NAPA families in difficult economic times, yet so many items are there nearly all term.

Call Out for Props

Our production, All Shook Up, needs a motorbike that will only be pushed on and off stage (not ridden). If you happen to have one you can part with for a month at the end of September and into October, we would greatly appreciate it. This production also needs a Juke Box (it doesn’t have to work but great if it does). Could you please email Laurie if you can help out with this request as we desperately need these items.

Theatre Etiquette Applies to Parents Representing NAPA

Two weeks ago in the newsletter, I outlined the expectations of theatre etiquette at NAPA when watching NAPA performances. I need to stress that this applies to anyone representing NAPA outside of our studio as well. Sadly, this weekend, an official complaint was put into the organisers of the BPAC competition that despite instructions given to the audience that photography or filming is not allowed, one of our parents was seen filming despite this instruction. This is not part of our NAPA Studio Spirit or ethos and we were nearly disqualified because of this action. If that had happened, our students would have been punished for the behaviour of a parent. Fortunately, we were not disqualified as the organisers were very impressed by our students’ behaviour and Kim explained that we have communicated theatre etiquette to our NAPA families, so we do not support this kind of behaviour. If parents cannot follow our theatre etiquette guidelines, NAPA is not for you. In saying all of this, we are constantly impressed and appreciative of our fabulous parents who volunteer to help in any way they can to make NAPA the best place for training of their children. The support so many parents give their children and NAPA is awesome. Let’s hope this never happens again.

On a happier note, relax and enjoy your holidays so you are all prepared for the upcoming semester of a massive amount of performances. Our teachers are in great need of a well-deserved break, although a few are working with our students during the holidays to get them show ready, especially Miss Jane who has scheduled lots of one-on-one work with her Pre-Senior acting class students, as this show follows Cats. Ticket sales release will be announced first week back after the holidays.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hugs,
Lynn & the NAPA Team
