The search begins for cast of top musical theatre talent for new production of hit Australian musical ‘The Boy from Oz’ and some of our NAPA Cherubs, Aidan Atanasoff, Asher Peters and Dexter Ryan, were jumping at the chance to participate in a promotional campaign for the production auditions, and can’t wait to join in the audition process.

In a salute to a career that started in our own back yard, the life of Peter Allen in the production of ‘The Boy from Oz’ will take to the stage of The Star in a strictly limited season this October with auditions kicking off this week.

A unique collaboration with the Spotlight Theatrical Company, the stage spectacular will be produced and directed by former Gold Coaster and renowned creative director, Drew Anthony.

The Boy from Oz celebrates the extraordinary life of Allen from his early years growing up and entertaining in Armidale, New South Wales, to later become an energetic, internationally acclaimed composer who thrilled audiences all over the world.

The popular Australian musical will give Spotlight, the Gold Coast’s longest running theatre company and its many talented performers, creatives and technical teams an exciting opportunity to step onto the big stage at ‘The Star Gold Coast’.

The hunt is on to fill more than 30 roles including the Young Peter and the world class entertainer he became, a role previously made famous by Australian performers, Todd McKenney and Hugh Jackman.

Producer/Director, Drew Anthony said he fell in love with performing when, as a child, he appeared in a number of Spotlight productions here on the Gold Coast.

“I’m thrilled to be creating this reimagined production of The Boy from Oz ‘at home’ where it all began for me.

“The Gold Coast also played an important part in Allen’s rise to stardom with the old Currumbin Hotel hosting his first professional gig in 1958 followed by performances in Surfers Paradise where he met Chris Bell and went on to form the Allen Brothers.

“I’m expecting some fierce competition for roles in this show and know from experience that there is a plethora of Queensland talent who will step up for auditions.

“Audition information is available from Monday, 28 March with the initial video audition deadline set for 14 April before we invite successful performers back and provide materials for them to prepare for the next casting step,” Anthony said

Anthony, who worked with Allen during his highly successful career recently directed a production of The Boy from Oz at the Crown Theatre, Perth.

The show enjoyed rave reviews, multiple standing ovations and reports of amazing choreography and brilliant vocal performances.

The Boy from Oz is another step in a journey to recovery and rejuvenation for performing arts on the Gold Coast and will take to the stage of ‘The Star’ from Friday 14 October – Sunday 23 October 2022. Tickets will be on sale through Ticketek Australia after Easter.
